NBC News reported that Democrats are on track to secure the second-largest House popular vote margin in the past 50 years, with an estimated 259 House seats won.

This margin represents the largest midterm lead for one party since 1974, when Republicans faced losses following the Watergate scandal.

With votes still being counted, especially in Democratic-leaning California, Democrats have captured 55.3% of the national vote compared to 43.3% for Republicans, a 12-point margin.

The margin surpasses previous midterm and wave year margins, including Democratic leads in 2008 and 2018 and Republican leads in 1994, 2010, and 2014.

Analysis of battleground districts showed an average 17-point swing toward Democrats compared to the 2024 presidential margins, with the largest shifts in South Texas due to increased Latino voter support.

The election results also set the stage for the 2028 presidential race, with new Democratic governors and senators emerging as influential figures in early primary states.
