Democrat Rob Sand won the Iowa governor's race, becoming the first Democrat elected to the office in 20 years, according to NBC News. Sand defeated Republican Zach Lahn, flipping a seat held by Republicans for over two decades, as reported by PBS NewsHour and CBS News. Sand, currently Iowa's state auditor and the only Democrat in statewide office, campaigned on bipartisanship and a middle-of-the-road approach, which helped him win over independents in a state trending Republican in recent years.

In Iowa's 1st Congressional District, Democrat Christina Bohannan won election to the U.S. House, defeating Republican incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks, PBS NewsHour reported. This was Bohannan's third attempt, having narrowly lost by 799 votes two years prior. Factors favoring her included President Donald Trump's declining popularity and voter concerns about the economy.

In Pennsylvania, Democrat Janelle Stelson won election to the U.S. House representing the 10th Congressional District, defeating Republican incumbent Scott Perry, PBS NewsHour reported. Additionally, Democrat Paige Cognetti won election to the U.S. House in Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District, running as an independent-minded Democrat and city leader focused on fighting corruption, according to PBS NewsHour.

These election results reflect shifts in political control in key districts and statewide offices, with Democrats gaining ground in areas previously held by Republicans. The outcomes may influence the balance of power and policy directions at both state and federal levels in the coming years.
