The Wagon Wheel Flea Market, a popular weekend destination in Pinellas Park, closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has remained vacant since then, WUSF reported. The property spans over 150 acres, including wetlands, and had been a community gathering spot with a large food court and entertainment.

Belleair Development Group is under contract to purchase the land, which was originally owned by the late Hardy Huntley, who started the flea market in 1966 and expanded the property over time. The development company is currently considering various options for the site but has ruled out data centers as a potential use.

Christian Yepes, co-owner of the Pinellas Park-based company, said they are exploring different ways to develop the property that would complement each other and fit the site well. He mentioned that there is no set timeline for development yet.

Yepes also shared his personal connection to the site, recalling fond memories of visiting the flea market with his children and driving past the property daily. The company owns other nearby properties, including The Shoppes at Park Place, but has not announced specific plans for the Wagon Wheel site yet.
