Eaton Fire survivors perform play and memorialize victims in LA
Survivors of the Eaton Fire in Altadena share their stories through a play and a mural honoring victims.
Survivors of the Eaton Fire in Altadena recently performed a play based on their experiences, as reported by LAist. The script was adapted from interviews conducted by a photographer and longtime Altadena resident, aiming to help survivors heal through art.
In downtown Los Angeles, at the David Henry Hwang Theater, survivors including Daniel Moisés, Elisa Nixon, Julia Ahumada Grob, and Rasheed Ali took the stage to share their stories. This performance is part of a national tour sponsored by the nonprofit Extreme Weather Survivors.
Meanwhile, Altadena artist and muralist Austin Scott is creating a portrait of Evelyn McClendon, the first victim identified from the Eaton Fire, outside the Union Center for the Arts in Little Tokyo. The portrait incorporates smaller images of the 19 people who died in the fire, serving as a memorial.
During the event, attendees gathered to eat and listen to music, including a performance by Emeka Chukwurah and his band, who play Nigerian highlife fusion music. The gathering combined art, music, and community to honor those affected by the fire.
