Far-right motivated shooting kills 6 in Kraków, Poland declares mourning
A gunman with far-right views killed six in Kraków's main square; investigation ongoing into related murders.
Authorities in Poland reported that a gunman motivated by far-right ideologies opened fire in Kraków's main market square, killing six people on Saturday, according to NBC News.
The victims included four women and two men, making it the deadliest shooting in Poland in decades. A policeman who confronted the shooter remains in critical condition.
Polish officials described the attack as a "terror attack," with the suspect believed to have acted to intimidate a large number of people, as stated by the Polish Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek.
The same suspect faces additional murder charges linked to the deaths of three of his relatives in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyskie, a town northeast of Kraków, where the relatives were found dead in his home.
Poland has declared two national days of mourning following the attack. Investigators are prioritizing establishing the full sequence of events and securing evidence in this ongoing terror offense investigation.
