Federal panel approves Trump triumphal arch construction in Washington D.C.
The National Capital Planning Commission approved plans for a Trump triumphal arch despite public opposition and a temporary court order.
The National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) voted 8-4 to approve the construction of a triumphal arch championed by President Trump, to be located between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, The Hill reported.
The decision came after a nearly nine-hour meeting that included over 100 public remarks, most of which opposed the project, according to The Hill.
Following the NCPC approval, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order halting construction, as noted by Fox News, putting the project on hold.
The arch has become a subject of political debate, with the planning commission's approval contrasting with legal challenges and public opposition, as reported by multiple outlets including WFMD and KSBW.
The project’s future remains uncertain as legal proceedings continue, and the temporary restraining order prevents any construction activity for now.
