Florida Bar employee placed on leave after racist messages to UM football player
A Florida Bar IT employee was put on leave after sending racist and threatening messages to a University of Miami football player.
Following the University of Miami football team's double-overtime victory over Florida State, defensive lineman Damon Wilson shared racist, homophobic, and threatening direct messages he received on social media, CBS News Miami reported.
Wilson posted the messages with the caption "Glimpse into the life of a black student-athlete," revealing a rant filled with racial and gay slurs along with violent threats, according to CBS News Miami.
The sender was identified as a Florida State University graduate working in the technology department for the Florida Bar, thegrio.com and CBS News Miami reported.
The Florida Bar responded by placing the employee on administrative leave, stating the messages violated their internal social media policy and emphasizing their commitment to enforcing policies while protecting due process rights, CBS News Miami noted.
Wilson's teammates expressed support during a press session, with tight end Elijah Lofton calling Wilson his brother and Chase Smith urging to stay focused and block out distractions, CBS News Miami reported.
