Guidewire, an insurance technology company, announced the acquisition of Hyperexponential, an AI-driven underwriting software firm, for $1.7 billion in cash, TechCrunch reported.

The deal is expected to close sometime next year and includes an additional $400 million in capital contingent on meeting certain revenue targets, bringing the total potential value to around $2 billion.

Hyperexponential, founded in 2017 and backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Battery Ventures, has raised nearly $90 million to date and serves nearly 600 insurers across 40 countries.

Guidewire aims to use Hyperexponential's AI agents to assist human underwriters in analyzing, pricing, and making insurance decisions, enhancing the underwriting process with artificial intelligence.
