Holy City Cinema, a new film series focusing on women’s stories and filmmakers, launched Sunday at the Terrace Theater on James Island, according to Live 5 WCSC.

The sold-out event showcased three films, including a documentary directed by actress and Daytime Emmy winner Cady McClain, alongside two local projects: an experimental short and a teen mystery pilot.

Following the screenings, attendees participated in a director-led panel discussing women in creative industries and enjoyed a five-course dinner where they engaged directly with the artists.

Founder Rebecca Finley said the series was created to provide a platform for women in creative fields to connect with the community and share their experiences, aiming to increase representation and support for female and minoritized filmmakers.

Finley emphasized that the events are designed for small audiences to foster meaningful conversations beyond typical question-and-answer sessions, celebrating women’s stories and contributions to film in the Charleston area.
