The National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida, has issued a Flood Watch for the Orlando area and surrounding counties including Inland and Coastal Volusia, Northern and Southern Lake, Seminole, and Osceola. This watch is in effect until Monday afternoon.

The watch is due to excessive rainfall caused by a disturbance from the Gulf interacting with abundant moisture over Central Florida. This weather pattern is expected to produce heavy rain bands overnight with widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches, and localized totals of 5 to 7 inches or more.

The ground in the area is nearly saturated, increasing the risk of flooding. The National Weather Service advises that excessive runoff may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Urban and poor drainage areas are also at risk.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and be prepared for possible flash flooding. Safety guidance from the National Weather Service includes monitoring weather updates and avoiding flood-prone areas during heavy rainfall.

For more information and safety tips, the National Weather Service directs the public to their flood safety webpage.
