Kenny Monroe wins 39th annual 17th Street High Heel Race in Dupont Circle
The annual D.C. event celebrated LGBTQ+ pride and community diversity with a festive race through Dupont Circle.
The 39th Annual 17th Street High Heel Race took place Tuesday night in Northwest Washington, D.C., drawing thousands of spectators to Dupont Circle, FOX 5 DC reported. Participants, including drag kings and queens, competed in stilettos, showcasing glamour and pride in the event.
Kenny Monroe won the race, earning his second title after a previous victory in 2024. Monroe shared his thoughts on the win and the inspiration behind his race-day outfit following the event.
Organizers highlighted that the race is more than a competition; it serves as a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and the diverse character of the Dupont Circle neighborhood. The event has become a D.C. tradition over four decades and was officially recognized as a mayoral event in 2018.
Community leaders, including D.C. mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George, attended and spoke at the race. Organizers are already planning for the 40th anniversary next year, promising more activities and excitement.
