La Mesa Village hosts Halloween event with treats and pet costume contest
Downtown La Mesa businesses welcome trick-or-treaters and pets for annual Halloween celebration Oct. 31.
The eighth annual Halloween in La Mesa Village will take place on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 6 p.m., according to the Times of San Diego. The event invites families and their costumed pets to enjoy free candy, stilt walkers, and a pet costume contest along La Mesa Boulevard and nearby streets between Grant and Acacia Avenues.
Organized by the La Mesa Village Association, the celebration features participating shops and restaurants distributing candy and treats while Halloween-themed stilt walkers roam the boulevard interacting with visitors. The event began in 2019 after local business owners expressed interest in creating a Halloween gathering for families.
Elizabeth Ranta, marketing representative for the La Mesa Village Association, shared that the pet costume contest, called Howl-o-Ween, attracts between 50 and 75 registered pets each year. The event has grown from a simple trick-or-treat activity to include entertainment and contests for both pets and humans.
This family-friendly event offers a chance for the community to come together and celebrate Halloween safely in downtown La Mesa. Attendees can expect a festive atmosphere with opportunities for children and pets to participate in the holiday fun.
