L.A. voters to elect three trustees for largest U.S. community college district
Five candidates compete for three seats on the Los Angeles Community College District Board, overseeing 200,000 students.
The Los Angeles Community College District, the largest in the nation, is holding elections for three board trustee seats. The district serves approximately 200,000 students and manages a budget of around $10 billion, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Five candidates are competing for Seat 2 on the board, with backgrounds ranging from education to community activism. Candidates emphasize improving job training, graduation rates, and affordability for students.
One candidate focuses on offering more job-specific training and reducing textbook costs through online resources. Another proposes preentry programs in local high schools to better prepare students for college.
Additional priorities among candidates include strengthening student services such as financial aid, housing, childcare, and mental health support, as well as addressing low enrollment and faculty pay equity.
Voters will decide on Nov. 3 who will oversee the district’s substantial student population and budget, impacting community college education across Los Angeles.
