California Labor Agency HQ renamed after Dolores Huerta
California's Labor and Workforce Development Agency building is renamed to honor labor leader Dolores Huerta.
The California Labor and Workforce Development Agency headquarters in downtown Sacramento has been renamed in honor of Dolores Huerta, a prominent labor leader and civil rights icon, CBS News Bay Area reported.
Governor Gavin Newsom announced the renaming on Friday, highlighting Huerta's work alongside farmworkers and her role in building powerful unions to ensure workers had a voice and dignity, according to CBS News Bay Area.
The building, which opened in January after a full renovation, is a 17-story, 650,000 square foot facility housing about 2,500 state employees from the agency, the Employment Development Department, Department of Industrial Relations, and the California Workforce Development Board.
Huerta, who died earlier this week at age 96, co-founded the group that became the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez in the 1960s. She received numerous honors including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was the first Latina inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame, CBS News Bay Area reported.
