A San Mateo man faces assault charges after throwing hot coffee at a Jack in the Box manager, authorities said.
A 64-year-old man from San Mateo has been charged with assault after allegedly throwing scalding hot coffee at a fast food restaurant manager, CBS News Bay Area reported.
The incident occurred at a Jack in the Box on 3rd Avenue on a Saturday morning when the man requested free food and was declined by the 55-year-old manager, according to San Mateo police.
After a customer bought him a meal and coffee, the man demanded a fresh cup and became verbally aggressive when refused. While being escorted out, he threw the hot coffee on the manager's face and neck, causing blistering.
Police identified and arrested the man the next day with the help of security footage. He was also found carrying methamphetamine, and has two prior strikes for assault-related convictions.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in custody at San Mateo County Jail on $10,000 bail, prosecutors said.
