LeBron James leads 76ers to 29-point comeback win in home debut
LeBron James praised the 76ers' resilience after overcoming a 29-point deficit to beat the Cavaliers 114-106 in his home debut.
LeBron James described his home debut with the Philadelphia 76ers as "everything that I dreamed of and more" after the team rallied from a 29-point halftime deficit to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-106, according to reports from Yahoo Sports and BBC Sport.
The 76ers were booed by their home crowd while trailing 69-45 at halftime but turned the atmosphere around by outscoring the Cavaliers 69-37 in the second half. Philadelphia took the lead for the first time with under seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a 15-point unanswered run.
James contributed 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the game. Tyrese Maxey led the team with 32 points, and Joel Embiid added 24.
Despite a rough start with turnovers and boos from the home fans, James said the boos were deserved and called the eventual cheers "amazing." This victory marked the largest comeback in James' 24-season NBA career and the biggest in the 76ers' play-by-play era since 1996-97.
Sixers coach Nick Nurse commented that the team is used to tuning out outside noise and distractions.
James also responded to criticism from President Donald Trump, who had called him a "total disgrace" for not standing still during the national anthem before a previous game, dismissing the comment as a slow news day.
The 76ers will next face the Milwaukee Bucks, a team against which James has averaged 28.7 points per game over his NBA career.
