The planned merger between Ellis Hospital and St. Peter’s Health Partners has been called off after six years of discussions, according to a letter published by the Daily Gazette.

Cardiology Associates of Schenectady, the only cardiology group in Schenectady County, continues to serve thousands of patients despite the merger cancellation. The group had originally affiliated with St. Peter’s in 2021 as part of the merger plans.

St. Peter’s President and CEO emphasized the hospital's commitment to providing high-quality cardiovascular care close to patients’ homes and workplaces. The letter supports the cardiologists who left St. Peter’s to continue their work at Ellis Hospital.

The letter urges local elected officials and state agencies to support the cardiology group in maintaining care for their patients at Ellis, respecting their original employment contracts which lack a non-compete clause.

This development highlights ongoing efforts to ensure uninterrupted cardiovascular care in the region despite organizational changes in local healthcare providers.
