Missile and drone attacks wound 9 in Ukraine ahead of talks with Russia and US
At least nine people were wounded in missile and drone attacks across Ukraine as Kyiv and Moscow prepare for peace talks with the US.
Drone and missile strikes wounded at least nine people across Ukraine on Saturday, according to WTXL, as Kyiv and Moscow prepared for new peace talks with the United States. The attacks caused damage to homes and commercial properties in Kyiv, leading to power and water outages, city and national officials reported.
Negotiators from Russia, Ukraine, and the US are scheduled to meet on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi for talks aimed at ending the ongoing war, WTXL noted. The most recent talks were held in Geneva in February.
Western governments backing the peace initiative are seeking new approaches to break the current deadlock, while recognizing that key territorial and security issues remain unresolved, WTXL added.
The missile strikes prompted the closure of Kyiv's Northern Bridge, a major connection between the city and residential areas on the east bank of the Dnipro River. Kyiv's mayor said repair work was already underway and water pressure had been stabilized.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the Russian attacks ahead of the trilateral negotiations, WTXL reported. Kyiv's mayor described the city's energy situation as extremely difficult, affecting heating and water supply systems.
