Moderate solar activity continues with slight chance of strong flares
NOAA reports moderate solar activity with a 20% chance of X-class flares and minor geomagnetic storms over next three days.
NOAA and USAF reported that solar activity has remained moderate with six numbered sunspot regions visible on the solar disk as of November 7, 2026.
Forecasters indicated a 60% chance of Class M solar flares and a 20% chance of more intense Class X flares on November 8, 9, and 10, 2026, with minor geomagnetic storms expected during this period.
Solar wind speed peaked at 715 km/s, and geomagnetic field conditions ranged from quiet to minor storm levels in the past 24 hours, according to the joint Solar Geophysical Activity Report.
Predictions suggest geomagnetic activity will be unsettled to minor storm levels on November 8 and 9, and quiet to active on November 10, with proton levels slightly elevated but within normal thresholds.
The Penticton 10.7 cm solar radio flux was higher than the 90-day average, indicating increased solar activity, with forecasts showing a gradual rise over the next three days.
