NC woman sues Trader Joe's over E. coli from Myrtle Beach deli wraps
A Robeson County woman alleges severe E. coli infection after eating wraps bought in Myrtle Beach, joining others in a lawsuit.
A woman from Robeson County, North Carolina, has filed a lawsuit against Trader Joe's, claiming she contracted a severe E. coli infection after consuming tarragon chicken salad wraps purchased at a Trader Joe's store in Myrtle Beach, WRAL reported.
According to the lawsuit, the woman bought three deli wraps on August 23, ate the first on August 27, and fell ill two days later, requiring emergency room treatment. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services identified the source of her illness as a wrap from Trader Joe's.
The lawsuit also involves another woman from Allston, Massachusetts, who alleges she was hospitalized with E. coli after buying the same wraps at a Trader Joe's location in that state.
As of October 7, the Food and Drug Administration reported 38 illnesses linked to these ready-to-eat deli wraps. Despite this, the lawsuit states there has been no recall or public health alert issued by Trader Joe's or health authorities.
