Nintendo releases Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2
The remake features updated visuals, new gameplay mechanics, and a special edition console release.
Nintendo is set to release a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2 on November 5th, 28 years after the original Nintendo 64 launch, The Verge reported. The remake introduces a more realistic visual style inspired by puppet shows and practical effects, aiming to preserve the fantasy world feel of the original game.
The updated version includes modern gameplay improvements such as a jump button, sprinting ability, full voice acting, and a new 'Threads of Time' feature to help players track progress, according to The Verge. Despite these changes, many classic elements remain faithful to the original release.
Nintendo has also launched a special edition Switch 2 console and Switch 2 Pro Controller decorated with Triforce imagery to celebrate the game's release, The Verge noted. Physical copies are available with a $10 discount before launch, after which prices are expected to rise.
NPR Technology reviewed the remake positively, describing it as superb and streamlined, solidifying its place in gaming history. However, the reviewer mentioned feeling a sense of loss despite the high production values, reflecting a complex emotional response to the remake.
