A shooting incident occurred in Trappes, a town about 13 miles west of Paris, resulting in one person killed and four others wounded, French authorities confirmed, as reported by DW English and BBC World.

The suspect fired shots from a vehicle at multiple people along his route, including at a playground, according to the mayor of Trappes, Ali Rabeh, who described it as a miracle more people were not hurt.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that the weapon used appeared to be military-grade or automatic. The suspect was arrested in the nearby town of Coignieres and taken into police custody.

The French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu described the incident as very serious and confirmed that all security and judicial resources had been mobilized. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) is leading the investigation.

PNAT opened an inquiry into murder connected with a terrorist enterprise, including possession of a Category A weapon and conspiracy with a terrorist group, as noted by BBC and France 24.

The victim who died was of African origin, and one critically wounded individual was of North African origin, according to local officials.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his deep emotion and solidarity with the victims amid the ongoing investigation.
