Jersey inflation rate rises to 3% driven by food, alcohol, and fuel costs
Jersey's inflation rate increased to 3% in September, led by higher prices in food, alcohol, and fuels, Statistics Jersey reported.
The annual inflation rate in Jersey rose to 3% in September, up from 2.8% in June, according to figures from Statistics Jersey reported by BBC Business.
The increase was mainly driven by higher costs in household services, alcoholic drinks, and food, with food prices rising by 3.5%.
Fuel prices saw significant increases, with heating oil and other fuels up 47.7% over the year, and petrol and oil prices rising by 22.7%.
Housing costs contributed 0.2% to the inflation rate and remained the largest component of the retail price index, encompassing rentals, mortgage interest, parish rates, and maintenance costs.
Statistics Jersey noted that the island's headline inflation rate was 0.6 percentage points lower than the UK's CPIH inflation rate of 3.6%, which also includes housing costs.
The report highlighted ongoing global energy market disruptions linked to conflict in the Middle East as a factor influencing fuel price increases.
