Overturned cement truck closes New Kent Highway for several hours

Route 249 in New Kent County is closed due to an overturned cement truck, with detours in place and delays expected.

The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office reported that Route 249 is closed following an overturned cement truck. The closure affects the stretch between Route 106 and Poindexter Road, according to a social media update.

VDOT has established detours to redirect traffic around the incident site. Drivers are advised to follow posted signs and expect delays while crews work to clear the scene.

Authorities indicated that the road closure will last for several hours. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes if possible to avoid the affected area.
