Peter Thiel says Apple has done nothing new since Steve Jobs
Billionaire Peter Thiel criticized Apple's innovation post-Steve Jobs, praising eccentric CEOs like Elon Musk instead.
Peter Thiel, a billionaire venture capitalist and cofounder of PayPal, said Apple has not innovated significantly since the death of its founder Steve Jobs in 2011, according to Business Insider and AOL reports.
Thiel expressed this view in a September interview with author Walter Isaacson for the "Builder's Podcast," which was released recently. He described the mobile phone as a major invention but said Apple has mainly focused on scaling and branding since then.
He contrasted Apple's approach under current Chairman Tim Cook with that of more eccentric CEOs like Elon Musk, stating that such leaders are "way better for society."
Despite his criticism, Thiel acknowledged Apple as a "pure, well-run value stock" but lamented the loss of vision after Jobs' passing. Apple has faced criticism for not advancing beyond the mobile phone and tablet, especially in AI technology where its Siri product lags behind competitors.
Apple has released the 18th iteration of the iPhone recently, featuring a folding design, and its MacBooks and AirPods remain popular among users.
Apple did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Thiel's remarks.
