Republican Blaise Ingoglia wins Florida CFO race by narrow margin
Blaise Ingoglia, appointed last year, secures voter approval to continue as Florida's chief financial officer.
Republican Blaise Ingoglia has won the race for Florida's chief financial officer, narrowly defeating Democratic candidate Annette Taddeo by about 2 percentage points, WUSF reported.
Ingoglia was first appointed to the CFO position last year by Governor Ron DeSantis after the previous CFO, Jimmy Patronis, left for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Before becoming CFO, Ingoglia was a state lawmaker, founder of a home building company, and chair of the Republican Party of Florida from 2015 to 2019, according to WUSF.
The Florida CFO oversees the state's finances, insurance regulation, and fire safety enforcement. Ingoglia's campaign highlighted his efforts to arrest criminals, expose waste, fine insurance companies, and return $847 million to Floridians.
As CFO, Ingoglia has focused on reducing property taxes and criticizing local governments for overspending, advocating that localities can afford revenue losses.
The CFO is part of Florida's Cabinet, an executive branch body that makes significant state decisions.
