Stevie Wonder has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking to evict Carmen Efferson, a woman who has lived in his Studio City home rent-free for nearly four decades, according to reports from hola.com and nypost.com.

The legal complaint states that Efferson, Wonder's former fiancée, has resided in the property since a verbal agreement was made in 1988. The dispute escalated this summer when Efferson refused to allow an insurance inspection of the home, which is necessary to maintain its coverage.

Efferson responded to a notice about the inspection with a profanity-laced email, expressing that she felt harassed and did not consent to the inspection. Wonder's legal representatives attempted to gain access to the property but were denied entry.

The home, a three-bedroom, four-bathroom property valued at nearly $1.8 million, has been the subject of the legal action. Wonder's legal team has indicated that eviction proceedings will continue if Efferson does not consent to the inspection.

Wonder has been married to Tomeeka Bracy since 2017, and the lawsuit highlights the ongoing dispute over the property and Efferson's residency.
