Authorities arrested three suspects after an FBI tip led to uncovering a plot targeting Cherokee High School.
Police have arrested three individuals in connection with an alleged conspiracy to carry out a shooting at Cherokee High School, according to Atlanta News First and FOX 5 Atlanta.
The investigation began after the FBI received a tip about threatening social media posts directed at Cherokee High School. Cherokee County School District police contacted the Canton Police Department, which opened an investigation.
A juvenile former Cherokee High School student from Canton was arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and disruption of a public school. Two additional suspects were later identified and arrested: 17-year-old Shane Keith Taylor of Metter, Georgia, and 21-year-old Michael Brandon Terry from Chatsworth, California, who is awaiting extradition to Georgia.
Authorities seized firearms, ammunition, and communication devices during the investigation. Canton Police confirmed all suspects are in custody and stated there are no ongoing threats to Cherokee High School or other schools in Cherokee County.
Cherokee County School District officials met with faculty and staff to brief them on the investigation. The district emphasized that safety protocols, including locked doors and visitor checks, are in place and working as designed.
