Trump accepts election results but denies they reflect on him
President Trump congratulated Democrats on their wins but said midterms aren't a referendum on his presidency.
President Donald Trump acknowledged the victories of Democratic candidates in the recent midterm elections but stated he does not see the results as a reflection on his leadership, according to LAist reporting on November 4, 2026.
In a phone interview with Fox News, Trump said the Democrats "did a good job" and "fought hard," but attributed losses by several candidates he supported to the candidates themselves rather than his policies.
The report noted that some Trump-backed candidates lost in areas where he had previously won easily in 2024, but Trump pointed to his administration's achievements, calling the past two years "the greatest in the history of the presidency."
LAist also highlighted that vote counts for local races come from Los Angeles and Orange County registrars, while statewide results are from the California Secretary of State's Office, with updates provided as ballots continue to be tallied.
Voters are reminded that close races may take days or weeks to finalize due to early and mail-in voting methods, which have changed the election counting process in California.
