Early results in the Inglewood mayoral race show Councilmember Gloria Gray leading with 34.51% of the vote, while incumbent Mayor James Butts has 29.88%, according to LAist.

Counting will continue over the coming days, and if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, Inglewood will hold a runoff election.

Both Butts and Gray have expressed readiness for a runoff. Butts told supporters at his watch party on Market Street that he is prepared to face Gray and is confident in his chances.

Gray, speaking at her campaign headquarters on Crenshaw Boulevard, said the race is not over and believes she has a strong chance, pointing to the mayor's vulnerability.

Mayor Butts has led Inglewood for 15 years, overseeing significant development including world-class stadiums and venues, but some question if this growth benefits longtime residents and businesses.

The runoff, if it occurs, will determine whether Butts continues his leadership or if Gray will take over as mayor of Inglewood.
