Jenny Groom has been appointed head of MGM Alternative at Amazon MGM Studios, according to reports from Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Variety. She will oversee established unscripted shows including Survivor, Shark Tank, and The Voice, as well as lead development of new series for Prime Video and third-party outlets.

Groom joins Amazon MGM Studios from BBC Studios, where she was executive vice president of unscripted development. At BBC Studios, she developed shows such as Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro and Nation’s Dumbest, which aired on ABC and Fox.

Prior to her time at BBC Studios, Groom spent nearly 20 years at NBCUniversal, rising to executive vice president of unscripted programming. There, she greenlit shows like The Traitors and managed reality series including The Voice and America’s Got Talent.

Jenn Levy, head of nonfiction at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed that Groom’s extensive experience on both the buying and selling sides of the business makes her a key asset for the studio’s unscripted ambitions. Groom will report directly to Levy.

Groom’s role will involve managing MGM’s format library, which remains active globally, and driving the development and sales of new unscripted formats for Amazon’s platforms and other outlets.

Her appointment is effective at the end of November, marking a significant hire for Amazon MGM Studios’ alternative programming division as it continues to expand its unscripted content offerings.
