Trump uses Islamophobic rhetoric in final midterm campaign rallies
President Trump targets Muslim politicians with unfounded claims in last campaign events before midterm elections.
According to Al Jazeera English, US President Donald Trump delivered two campaign rallies in Iowa and Kansas days before the midterm elections, where he intensified Islamophobic rhetoric and conspiracy theories about the Democratic Party.
Trump repeatedly accused Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic Senate candidate from Michigan, of being a “jihadist” and joked about installing metal detectors in the Senate to scan him, remarks that drew laughter from the crowd.
He also alleged, without evidence, that El-Sayed is linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization the US classifies as a foreign terrorist group.
In addition, Trump made unfounded claims about Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar's personal life, and attacked Adam Hamilton, a church pastor running for Senate in Kansas.
Trump urged his supporters to vote as if he were on the ballot, aiming to mobilize Republican voters ahead of what polling indicates could be a difficult election for the party.
These rallies were initially canceled but then rescheduled, marking Trump's final campaign events before the midterms.
