A man from Darwin, Northern Territory, became $1 million richer after catching an 80cm red-tagged barramundi during a night fishing trip with his brother, The Guardian reported.

The 26-year-old had just finished football training and decided to go out on a boat with his sibling, who was visiting from overseas.

The catch was part of a Northern Territory fishing competition, where tagged barramundi can yield significant prizes.

Matthew Maurice expressed simple happiness about catching fish, highlighting the casual nature of the fishing trip that led to the big win.
