Lionel Messi played a key role for Inter Miami in their 2-1 comeback victory against the New England Revolution on Sunday night, according to WSVN 7News. Messi provided a second-half assist and scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute.

The match was scoreless until New England's Dániel Gazdag scored in the 53rd minute, giving the Revolution a temporary lead. Messi then assisted Germán Berterame's equalizer in the 69th minute, with Berterame recording 10 goals and 10 assists this MLS season, WSVN 7News reported.

With this win, Inter Miami improved to 16-6-11 and moved into second place in the Eastern Conference, passing New England by one point with one regular season match remaining. The victory marked Inter Miami's 10th road win this season, three more than any other team.

Messi's performance also boosted his season statistics to 26 goals and 16 assists, putting him in strong contention for a third consecutive Landon Donovan MLS MVP award and a second straight Golden Boot, Yahoo Sports noted. Inter Miami now prepares to host Charlotte FC to close out the regular season, while New England will face Orlando City.

The game was attended by 54,112 fans at Gillette Stadium, and Messi's coach praised his contributions, highlighting Messi's exceptional impact at age 39, according to Yahoo Sports.
