A recent report from congressional Democrats revealed that President Donald Trump's investments in pharmaceutical companies increased significantly after he returned to office in 2025, according to the Associated Press.

The report, released by the Joint Economic Committee’s minority arm, showed that Trump's pharmaceutical stock holdings grew from a maximum of $1.7 million in 2024 to as much as $56.2 million by the end of 2025. This included up to $39.1 million in companies benefiting from exemptions to Medicare's drug price negotiation program, a provision in the 2025 Republican tax and spending law.

Democrats' analysis of Trump's financial disclosures indicated his portfolio purchased up to $2.55 million in shares of these pharmaceutical companies on three occasions before he signed the legislation in July 2025. Notably, $950,000 in shares were bought on the day the Senate passed the bill, July 1, 2025, and $1 million in AbbVie stock was acquired in August 2025 after the law took effect.

The report also highlighted concerns that the exemptions could result in some Medicare beneficiaries paying thousands more for certain cancer treatments and other medications than they would have if Medicare had been allowed to negotiate prices.

The White House has denied any ethics issues and accused Democrats of fabricating conflicts of interest. Meanwhile, lowering prescription drug costs remains a key part of Trump's healthcare policy agenda.
