Gainesville police have arrested two suspects following a shooting that injured a 14-year-old boy on October 27, according to FOX 5 Atlanta and Atlanta News First. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Chestnut and Summit streets, where the victim suffered gunshot wounds to his right arm and right leg and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition.

Investigators found that the victim and one of the suspects knew each other and had been involved in a dispute prior to the shooting, as reported by both outlets. The 15-year-old suspect, Devaun Henry Peoples, was arrested at a Gainesville hotel and charged as an adult with aggravated assault and aggravated battery. He is being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville.

The second suspect, 20-year-old Tristan Anthony Mize, was arrested on charges including party to the crime of aggravated assault, false statements and writings, and hindering apprehension. He is currently held at the Hall County Jail. Police have not provided further details about the suspects’ specific roles in the shooting.

Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish noted that this incident is part of a troubling pattern involving teenagers and firearms in the city, with three shootings involving teenagers since July 3. Officials emphasized the need for community engagement to prevent further violence.

Authorities encourage anyone with information about the case to contact Gainesville Police or submit anonymous tips online.
