The San Jose Police Department announced the arrest of two officers on felony charges following an internal investigation into evidence tampering, CBS News Bay Area reported.

Officers Raydarius Surry and Destiney Thompson were arrested on October 28, facing charges of evidence tampering and filing a false police report, according to the department.

The investigation started in August 2026 after a baggie of suspected narcotics listed as evidence in a May 3 arrest report filed by Surry went missing. Surry allegedly stopped and searched an unrelated pedestrian in August, found a similar bag of narcotics, and booked it as evidence under the May 3 case without documenting the stop or seizure.

Thompson is accused of reviewing bodycam footage of the May 3 arrest to assist Surry in replacing the missing evidence. Both officers were placed on administrative leave in September. The department stated there is no evidence of other discrepancies or similar misconduct by the two officers.
