Volusia County launches Florida’s first online domestic violence offender database
Volusia County residents can now access a database with domestic violence convictions, mugshots, and court records from the past 10 years.
Volusia County has introduced Florida’s first online database that allows residents to search for domestic violence offenders, according to WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando. The database includes individuals convicted of domestic or dating violence in Volusia County over the last decade and is directly linked to the county’s court system.
Anyone convicted in a Volusia County courthouse of domestic violence charges will be added to this live, continuously updated registry. The database provides names, booking photos, and related court cases but does not include any victim information, FOX 35 Orlando reported.
The idea for the database came from Volusia County Councilman Matt Reinhart, who noted its usefulness beyond romantic relationships, especially for the county’s large elderly population who may need to allow individuals into their homes for care.
Domestic violence survivor advocate Emma Sanders highlighted the potential impact of the tool, saying it could be life-changing for even one person by helping them make informed decisions and know how to respond if they encounter an offender in daily life.
The registry is accessible on the Volusia County government website, providing residents a new resource to increase safety and awareness within the community.
