A teenager faces multiple charges following a shooting near Florida A&M University that wounded 12 people, including children.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium that injured 12 people, including six children, the Tallahassee Police Department announced Monday morning, according to ABC News and NBC News.
The shooting occurred on Saturday night near Perry and Manatee streets, close to the stadium where homecoming celebrations were taking place. Police said the incident followed a physical altercation and appeared to stem from a dispute between individuals known to one another, with none of the victims appearing to be the intended targets.
The teenager faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent. State attorney Jack Campbell stated the youth will be prosecuted as an adult, NBC News reported.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell described the event as turning a weekend of celebration into one of fear and violence. He said the arrest marks progress but emphasized that the investigation remains open and active, with the possibility of more arrests.
The university expressed sympathy for the victims and those affected by the incident. Police continue to investigate the shooting and have not ruled out additional charges or arrests.
