Airman from Joint Base Lindsey Graham charged in North Charleston hit-and-run
A 21-year-old airman was arrested after a hit-and-run collision near International Boulevard and I-526 on-ramp.
A 21-year-old airman assigned to Joint Base Lindsey Graham was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision in North Charleston, according to ABC News 4 WCIV and Live 5 WCSC.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on October 16 near International Boulevard and the eastbound Interstate 526 on-ramp, across from the Chili’s restaurant. The victim told police her vehicle ran out of gas and stopped in the first lane of International Boulevard. She activated her hazard lights and called for roadside assistance and police.
The victim said the airman was driving in the second lane when he struck her vehicle, then continued toward the I-526 ramp, abandoned his vehicle, and ran on foot toward Chili’s. Police found the vehicle unoccupied and discovered the airman’s identification inside.
Base police detained the airman at Joint Base Lindsey Graham, and he acknowledged involvement in a minor crash and running through the woods. Officers observed scratches on him consistent with traveling through a wooded area. He invoked his right to remain silent and declined medical care.
The airman later turned himself in at North Charleston City Hall and was charged with hit-and-run involving an unattended vehicle. He was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center, according to both news outlets.
