Apple has updated its iMac desktop computer with the new M6 chip, the same processor introduced with the Mac Mini in August, The Verge reported. The new iMac models start at $1,499 and feature a 10-core CPU and GPU, with a higher-end option offering a 12-core CPU and GPU starting at $1,699.

The M6 chip is Apple's first 2nm processor and includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine, which Apple says delivers up to five times faster on-device AI performance compared to the previous M4-powered iMac. The design of the iMac remains largely unchanged from the previous generation.

Alongside the M6 chip, the iMac now includes Apple's N1 wireless networking chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, enhancing connectivity capabilities. Preorders for the updated iMac begin October 28th, with availability starting November 6th.

In addition, Apple refreshed the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip and the same N1 wireless chip, bringing Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 to this model, The Verge reported. The MacBook Pro retains its existing design, port layout, 12MP Center Stage camera, and Liquid Retina XDR display.

The new MacBook Pro includes three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, a MagSafe 3 charging port, full-size HDMI, and an SDXC memory card slot. Pricing starts at $1,999 with 16GB of memory.

These updates mark Apple's continued rollout of its latest silicon and wireless technologies across its Mac product line, with the iMac update announced ahead of the company's upcoming "Pro and Tell" event.
