Asda has named David Potts, the former chief executive of Morrisons, as its new CEO with immediate effect, the BBC reported.

Potts led Morrisons for eight years until 2023, overseeing a turnaround that included the chain's acquisition by a US private equity firm.

Asda's current boss Allan Leighton will become non-executive chairman after returning to lead the supermarket chain two years ago.

Potts aims to revitalize Asda by focusing on low prices and improving the shopping experience weekly, benefiting customers and all stakeholders, including its 116,296 employees.

Leighton said the business has stabilized and returned to growth under his leadership, and Potts's experience is ideal for the next transformation phase.
