At least 27 killed in strikes near Sanaa amid ongoing Yemen conflict
Yemeni government forces report advances while Houthis say deadly strikes hit a village near Sanaa, killing civilians.
Yemeni government forces reported repelling Houthi assaults in Marib province and advancing into Houthi-held areas of al-Jawf province, according to Al Jazeera. The government forces stated they conducted 875 attacks on Houthi positions in one day, neutralizing about 130 fighters and destroying vehicles and missile launchers.
Meanwhile, the Houthi-run Saba news agency reported that a series of strikes killed at least 27 people and wounded about 30 others in al-Shariya village near Sanaa, with most casualties being women and children. The Houthis blamed the Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen's government forces for the attack, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Houthi-affiliated media reported at least 25 people killed and 30 injured in air strikes they blamed on the Saudi-led coalition. Separately, nine attacks targeted telecommunications networks in Sa’ada governorate, according to Houthi-affiliated media.
DW reported that the Houthi rebel group accused Saudi Arabia of airstrikes on homes in al-Shariya village, killing at least 22 people. There was no immediate comment from Saudi Arabia on the reported strikes. The Houthis have controlled Sanaa and large parts of northern Yemen since 2014, while Saudi Arabia backs the internationally recognized government based in Aden.
The conflict has intensified since a truce fell apart over the summer, with the Houthis advancing along the Red Sea coast and hitting targets inside Saudi Arabia, including oil facilities, DW noted.
The situation remains volatile with ongoing fighting and airstrikes affecting civilians, especially in areas near Sanaa. Neither Saudi Arabia nor the Yemeni government has commented on the recent reported strikes near Sanaa, according to Al Jazeera.
