Australia appoint Mike Hussey as long-term batting consultant
Former batsman Mike Hussey joins Australia as batting consultant to prepare for 2027 Ashes and 2028 Olympics.
Australia has appointed former batsman Mike Hussey as a long-term batting consultant to help the national team prepare for the 2027 Ashes series and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to BBC Sport and Yahoo Sports.
Hussey, aged 51, has previously served as a short-term batting consultant for Australia and will begin working with the team during a five-game T20 series against England starting November 21, as reported by Yahoo Sports.
His role will also include assisting Australia in the 2028 T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand, and the upcoming four-Test series against New Zealand, as well as the one-off Test against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The appointment comes as Australia seeks to improve its performance in the longest format of cricket following recent poor results, including a drawn series at home to Bangladesh and a 2-1 defeat in South Africa, noted by BBC Sport.
Hussey, known as 'Mr Cricket' for his technical expertise, has extensive coaching experience, including with Australia, England, and in the Indian Premier League, according to Al Jazeera English.
Australian head coach Andrew McDonald highlighted Hussey's valuable skill set and complementary expertise across multiple formats, as stated in the Al Jazeera report.
