Bucs dominate Panthers 43-13 with strong rushing and defense
Tampa Bay Bucs rush for 258 yards and force four turnovers in a 43-13 win over Carolina Panthers.
The Tampa Bay Bucs defeated the Carolina Panthers 43-13 on Sunday, relying heavily on their ground game and a strong defensive effort, WUSF reported. The Bucs rushed for 258 yards on 49 carries, with Bucky Irving leading the way with 106 yards and two touchdowns. Kenny Gainwell contributed 88 yards on 14 carries despite a brief hip injury, and Sean Tucker added a 46-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield returned from a thumb injury and threw only 11 passes, completing seven for 64 yards and one touchdown. The Bucs led 33-6 at halftime, capitalizing on Carolina's mistakes, including four turnovers forced by Tampa Bay's defense. Calijah Kancey scored a 32-yard touchdown off a strip-sack, and the Bucs also scored two points by returning a blocked extra point.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young struggled under pressure, being sacked five times and limited to 163 passing yards with one touchdown, two interceptions, and a lost fumble. Panthers coach Dave Canales expressed disappointment over the turnovers and special teams errors that contributed to the lopsided score.
Bucs coach Todd Bowles praised Mayfield's performance, noting that the heavy rushing attack made it easier for the quarterback to manage the game after returning from injury. The victory improved Mayfield's record against the Panthers to 7-1, including 6-1 since joining Tampa Bay.
