The California Secretary of State has sent an Official Voter Information Guide to every registered voter, urging them to return their ballots immediately upon receipt, according to mercurynews.com.

The guide emphasizes returning ballots promptly with bold instructions such as “Don’t Delay, Vote Today! Return your ballot as soon as you receive it.”

However, experts caution that California's November 3 ballot includes 14 complex propositions that require thoughtful consideration before voting. For example, Proposition 1 involves an $11.25 billion bond for affordable housing that would cost the state at least $500 million annually for 25 years, potentially affecting funding for education and healthcare.

Other measures include Proposition 39, which would require government-issued ID to vote, a change that could slow vote counting despite limited evidence of voter fraud. Proposition 40 proposes a one-time 5% tax on billionaires’ wealth, raising questions about setting a precedent for wealth taxation in a state with already high income taxes.

Voters in the San Francisco area and across California are encouraged to take time to educate themselves on the ballot measures before mailing their ballots, rather than rushing to submit them immediately as the guide suggests.
