Andrew Novak, who graduated from Charleston's Academic Magnet High School, secured his first individual PGA Tour victory at the Mexico Open, finishing five shots ahead of the competition, Live 5 WCSC reported.

Novak built a commanding lead with rounds of 61 and 62 on the first two days of the tournament in Vallarta, Mexico. Despite a bogey on the 10th hole, he regained control by making three consecutive birdies on the back nine, closing with a 2-under 69 on Sunday.

His decisive run included a precise bunker shot on the 12th hole, a two-putt birdie on the 13th, and a 45-foot birdie putt on the 14th, which helped him maintain his lead and secure the win.

Novak expressed satisfaction with his performance, noting that this solo victory was a significant milestone after previously sharing a win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The tournament also impacted other players' standings in the FedEx Cup Fall rankings, but Novak's win was a highlight for Charleston sports fans.

This victory marks an important achievement for Novak as he continues his professional golf career.
