Gov. Josh Stein honors NC A&T's centennial homecoming and its impact on North Carolina's economy and culture.
Gov. Josh Stein attended the centennial homecoming football game at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, celebrating 100 years of the event known as the 'Greatest Homecoming on Earth,' ABC11 WTVD reported.
During the celebration, Gov. Stein proclaimed October 31, 2026, as a day recognizing the 100th anniversary of the homecoming, highlighting the university's cultural, academic, and economic contributions to the state.
The annual homecoming event attracts about 200,000 visitors and generates an estimated $80 million in economic impact for the region, according to Chancellor James R. Martin II, who praised the university as a strategic asset for North Carolina.
Gov. Stein emphasized the role of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) like NC A&T as engines of opportunity and economic mobility, noting that their success benefits the entire state.
Earlier in the year, Gov. Stein signed a budget investing nearly $480 million across North Carolina's five public HBCUs, including NC A&T, supporting their continued growth and influence.
