Hurricanes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov earns NHL honor after historic 10-0 start
Carolina Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov named NHL Third Star for October after record-setting winning streak.
Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov was named the NHL's Third Star for October following a dominant start to the 2026-27 season, WRAL reported.
Kochetkov set a franchise record by winning his first 10 games, becoming just the third goalie in NHL history to start a season with a 10-0 record. His streak included a 7-0 shutout against the Winnipeg Jets.
The 27-year-old posted a 1.49 goals-against average, a .929 save percentage, and two shutouts through October, marking the longest season-opening winning streak in Hurricanes history.
This achievement follows a challenging 2025-26 season for Kochetkov, which was impacted by injuries and hip surgery.
The NHL recognized Kochetkov's performance alongside Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid, who earned First Star honors for October.
