14 arrested on Glenwood Avenue during Halloween celebrations in Raleigh
Raleigh police arrested 14 people on Glenwood Avenue amid large Halloween crowds, with charges including affray and carrying a concealed gun.
WRAL reported that Raleigh police took 14 people into custody on Glenwood Avenue during Halloween celebrations Saturday night into Sunday morning. Thousands of people gathered in the busy nightlife district for the event.
According to WRAL, police records show that in the past 48 hours, at least 15 people were arrested in the downtown area with charges ranging from simple affray and resisting a public officer to intoxication and carrying a concealed gun. Seven individuals were charged with simple affray, which involved striking others with fists and hands in the street.
WRAL noted that at least a dozen gun-related charges were filed in downtown Raleigh between Friday and Saturday. The arrests on Saturday followed months after dozens were arrested during Fourth of July violence in the Glenwood South and Brier Creek areas.
The Halloween gathering drew an estimated 5,000 people to Glenwood South, where previous disturbances had prompted Raleigh officials to consider a youth curfew, though the proposal was ultimately scrapped. WRAL reached out to the Raleigh Police Department for further details, including any officer injuries, but no additional information was provided at the time.
